Mental Health Awareness Week 2021

Mental Health Awareness Week 2021

Posted: Mon 10 May 2021

During the pandemic, many of us will have struggled with a mental health problem, or supported a loved one with their mental health. Following the months of lockdown, those in isolation found it increasingly difficult to reach out, and it became clear that the support we all need, just isn’t out there, and many found the calm and clarity in simple activities, such as walking, cycling, gardening or even having their morning coffee in the garden.

Hosted by the Mental Health Foundation, the theme of this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week (10th – 16 May 2021) is nature. Nature is so central to our psychological and emotional health, that it’s almost impossible to realise good mental health for all without a greater connection to the natural world.

“This year we want people to notice nature and try to make a habit of connecting to the nature every day. Stop to listen to the birdsong, smell the freshly cut grass, take care of a house plant, notice any trees, flowers or animals nearby. Take a moment to appreciate these connections.”
